In the journey of life, sometimes one must take the roads less traveled.

When I left the Hellions compound last night, I drove my truck instead of my bike. It was late and on the off-chance Kylee was asleep, I didn’t want the rumble of my pipes to wake her. Right now, I’m thankful for the situation being what it is. Stepping outside, I inhale the morning summer air. Part of me knew I would be spending the night on my outdoor furniture. At least I spent the extra for the cushions because I managed a little sleep. With the drive ahead, I’m going to be wiped when we make it to our first stop.

It’s stifling as the first rain drops hit my face. Glancing over to her car, I take in the way she has it organized. Moving to it, I open the door, reach in and grab her purse and a duffle bag from the back.

The thing about a Geo Metro is it’s a hatchback so the contents can be seen through the windows. Other than this duffle bag, she has a pillow and blanket in the back so this has to be where her clothes are.

Honestly, I plan to buy her whatever she wants, but based on our encounters so far, she doesn’t strike me as the kind of woman who wants to be taken care of. Time is not on my side currently, so we have to get on the road as soon as possible.

This is really something I should do alone. If I could resist the pull to the blonde in my house, then I would be buying a plane ticket and making the drive to Albert Ellis Airport in Jacksonville. Instead, I’m trying to mentally map out the route across the country to Seattle. We might not even make it in time.

Maybe subconsciously I’m hoping there are no decisions for me to make. I don’t have time to keep questioning everything. Bottom line, I want Kylee with me and if that means I drive to Seattle, then road trip here we come.

The thunder rolls overhead and I make my way back to the trailer as the rain continues to build. Going inside, I see she’s staring at the empty suitcase. Rather than stress her out more, I set her bag down on my bed.

“Gonna assume this has everything you need,” I explain moving to my dresser and grabbing jeans, boxers, and socks. Tossing them haphazardly to the suitcase, I move to the closet where I yank a few t-shirts off the hangers and toss them into the case as well. I don’t stay here regularly, but I do keep clothes here. Dia and my mom always keep the kitchen stocked so the house is ready whenever I want to stay here.

Kylee opens her bag, double checks it, closes it, and then looks to me with a softness to her face. We move around, me grabbing things from the bathroom, silently content around each other. She doesn’t force herself to fill the void and I respect and appreciate that.
